Our faithfulness can encourage others in ways we may never fully realize.

We may not always recognize the influence our faith has on others. Sometimes it is the simple, everyday expressions of faithfulness that make the greatest difference.

Paul wrote to the Christians in Thessalonica, “You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit” (1 Thessalonians 1:6, NIV).

Their faith was evident even in difficult circumstances. Paul goes on to explain that they had become “a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia” (1 Thessalonians 1:7, NIV).

Their example encouraged others, and the message of their faith spread beyond their own community.

We may never know how our faithfulness influences someone else. A word of encouragement, an act of kindness, a willingness to forgive, or simply remaining faithful during difficult times can strengthen the faith of those around us.

Throughout this series, we have considered the importance of growing in Christ. We have been reminded that growth requires intentionality, a willingness to change, and the encouragement of Christian community.

But our growth also has an influence beyond ourselves. As we continue growing in Christ, our lives can become an encouragement to others.

Adding to Your Faith

This article is part of Adding to Your Faith, a series exploring how we can continue growing and maturing in Christ. Throughout the series, we will consider the importance of intentional growth, transformation, Christian community, and putting our faith into practice.
