Main Truth
In Jesus, we see what humanity was created to be and where God is taking us.
1. Created for Glory and Honor
Genesis 1:26–28; Psalm 8:3–8
Humanity was created in God's image.
God gave humanity a vocation: to represent his character and purposes within creation.
Psalm 8 describes humanity as crowned with glory and honor.
Before there was a fall, there was a vocation.
2. Something Has Gone Wrong
Genesis 3; Hebrews 2:5–8
Humanity has not fulfilled its God-given vocation.
Sin and death have disrupted God's good creation.
“Yet at present we do not see everything subject to them” (Hebrews 2:8).
God has not abandoned his original purpose for humanity.
3. But We See Jesus
Hebrews 2:8–9
Jesus entered fully into our humanity.
Through his suffering and death, Jesus was crowned with glory and honor.
Jesus fulfills the human vocation described in Genesis 1 and Psalm 8.
In Jesus, we see what humanity was created to be.
4. Bringing Many Sons and Daughters to Glory
Hebrews 2:10–13
Jesus is the pioneer of our salvation.
He opens the way through suffering and death into life.
Jesus is not ashamed to call us brothers and sisters.
God's purpose is not merely forgiveness, but the restoration of humanity to glory.
5. He Shared in Our Humanity
Hebrews 2:14–15
Jesus shared fully in our flesh and blood.
Through his death, Jesus broke the power of death.
He frees humanity from slavery to the fear of death.
Death does not have the final word.
6. A Merciful and Faithful High Priest
Hebrews 2:16–18
Jesus became fully human so that he could represent us before God.
He understands suffering, weakness, and temptation.
Jesus is able to help those who are being tempted.
His humanity is essential to his ministry as our high priest.
Conclusion: But We See Jesus
Hebrews 2:8–10
We do not yet see creation fully restored.
We do see Jesus, crowned with glory and honor.
Jesus has gone ahead of us and is bringing many sons and daughters to glory.
God's original purpose for humanity has not been abandoned.
In Jesus, we see what humanity was created to be and where God is taking us.
